  • The painting is a typical small Fête galante by Pater. The main group is based on figures in the painter's reception piece for the Paris Academy (Paris, Louvre) from 1728 and reappears in several of his works. The seated male figure originally had the same position in the reception piece and was then changed which might indicate that P458 slightly predates the painting in Paris.
