Jacques-Antoine Arlaud was born in Geneva, and spent much of his working career in Paris where he settled in 1688 and became miniature painter to the duc d’Orléans. He visited London in 1721 with a letter of introduction to Caroline, Princess of Wales. He returned to Geneva in 1729 and remained there until his death. Benjamin Arlaud (see M1) was his younger brother and Louis Ami Arlaud-Jurine (see M3) his great nephew.
