Born in Shoreditch, he was related to the princely house of Monaco. He was the pupil of Thomas Worlidge and worked in Paris from 1777 to 1783. He painted miniatures on ivory in a style influenced by his continental travel and also made enamels; much of his work was copied from portraits by other artists. He died in Chelsea.
