Little is known of his life. It is possible that he came from Amsterdam. He engraved pictures by van Laer and Lastman in 1644 and 1645 and there are dated paintings (history, genre, portraits, and landscapes) from 1653 to 1676. His training is not known but Backer appears to have been a strong influence, and his works have been attributed to van den Eeckhoudt and to Maes and Bol, C. Verhout was his pupil in Amsterdam between c.1664-9.
His last dated work, a mother and child in a landscape (private collection, Gavno) is dated 1676.
