Born in Leiden, he was an engraver before becoming the pupil of J. D. de Heem whose style he followed. There are dated works from 1647 and one of his finest works is the pronkstilleven (banquet piece) dated 1660 at Squerryes Court. He sometimes signed his work with a ring or with the latinised form of his name, P.Ab.Annulo. He died in Leiden on 22 September 1660.
