Baptised on 8 September 1641 in Amsterdam, the son of a painter. He signed Jacobus, J., or I. Storck or Sturck. There are dated works from 1662, and he specialised in sea, river or canal scenes, both topographical and fanciful.
He is recorded in Amsterdam in 1670, but his works suggest he soon afterwards travelled in Flanders, Germany and Italy. He probably died in or soon after 1688 after which date he is no longer listed as a member of the Amsterdam guild.
