Born on 25 July 1802 in Newcastle upon Tyne, he studied at the Royal Academy, London schools. Amongst the portraits he exhibited at the Royal Academy, London 1821-45 were those of Wellington (1835), John Gurwood (1842) and Mrs. Gurwood (1843).
His whole-length William IV is in the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, with three other portraits of naval sitters. He died in London on August 1845.
