Apprenticed to François Etienne at the age of fourteen. When he became master on 18 July 1732 he was living in the cour Lamoignon in Paris. He moved to the pont au Change, where he died in 1747. His widow, Marie-Anne Lefèvre, continued the business for at least another year.
