Painter and gilder, op. 1778 - 1790
Son of the painter, gilder and burnisher Charles Buteux. He entered the factory in 1778, aged about fifteen, and worked immediately as a figure painter. To judge by his subject matter he was the most versatile of the Buteux family. His work included pastoral subjects, children, animals, Etruscan figures, birds and arabesques. According to the painters’ records, he left the factory after 27 November 1784, but he continued to do piecework until at least 1790.
