Jean-Baptiste-Ignache Broche (1741 - 1794)
Works of Art

Joseph Broche and his brother Jean-Baptiste-Ignace were born in Belfort to a sculptor of Czech origin, active in Alsace in the 1730s and 40s. Little is known about their early career but they both were admitted to the Académie de Saint Luc in Paris in the 1770s.

The brothers seem to have produced works similar in style and quality throughout their career, which makes attributions difficult. Their debt to the style of Falconet is evident in the delicate modelling of the anatomy and the characteristic oval faces and pointed noses.
