  • Close-helmet, made up of a modern skull and sixteenth-century visor. The skull is fluted with a roped medial ridge; the flutes are of a different character to those found on genuine helmets, and are spaced and oriented differently. There is a small area of damage on top near the comb. The visor is bossed outwards, of the so-called 'monkey-face' type, repaired by a patch in front; it is without a catch to keep it in position. The chin-piece is pivoted at the same points as the visor and is fastened with a spring-catch, the bottom edge being turned under and roped with pairs of chiselled lines; neck-guard of two plates, ridged and fluted like the skull, and with similar, turned-under and roped edge.
