  • Visor of a close-helmet, entirely modern. It is unusually thick and heavy, made in one piece of bright steel, boldly embossed as a grotesque face with strong eyebrows, hooked nose and moustache (the latter, like the eyebrows, incised with engraved lines), and furrowed brow; the sights, which do not allow anything like an acceptable field of vision, are provided only by two small holes pierced in the eyes; there is a slit for the mouth under the moustache, and two pierced nostrils for ventilation. The moustaches have been skilfully worked into sharp points, although in form them are quite unlike those found on authentic mask-visors (compare to Wallace Collection A203 and A204).
