  • Demi-shaffron, of bright steel, with a horizontal lower edge and widening slightly above the eyes. The ear-pieces are riveted onto the main plate, along with a copper alloy plume-holder and a steel, shield-shaped escutcheon, possibly restored, bolted to the centre. The edges are turned under, roped, and bordered with copper alloy-headed rivets for lining strap. The poll-plate is attached by two leathers and pierced with three holes to accommodate the spring-pin of the crinet (missing).

This type of chanfron was used in conjunction with jousting armours of the type illustrated by Wallace Collection nos. A47-9.
