  • Stirrup, one of a pair with A439, of bright steel. Oval in outline; the sides (of great thickness) are of circular section at the top, but are flattened and contract towards the base where they are chiselled to the form of an acanthus leaf; oval tread formed of two twisted inner bars, and two curved outer ones, the latter pierced at the centre with a hole, their lower edges shaped and bevelled; a rectangular swivel eye for the leather is pivoted on the top of the arch.

In Skelton these stirrups are associated with a jousting armour which came from the arsenal of Munich, probably no. A.
