- Scabbard for a dagger of the so-called ‘Landsknecht’ type, of blackened steel boldly embossed, chased and pierced, in three sections: in the top panel stands a man holding an axe surrounded by grotesque harpies, crowned lions and eight spiral curls; in the middle a two-tailed mermaid among spiral ornaments; at the bottom a man and woman embracing in contemporary costume. The back is roughly chased with the date 1 ∙ 6 ∙ 2 ∙ 4, the letters B ∙ K, a shield with an axe and set-square and the letters H ∙ L ∙ H; two iron loops, crossed, for suspension. Compare the scabbard A765, which is of like, but not identical, design.
Entirely 19th-century.
