  • This piece was originally the top half of a cabinet with two stages, the wide cornice and moulding at the top of this piece were meant to be seen from below. The rectangular pedestals and bun feet are mid-19th century additions when converted to an independent cabinet. In 1983 a copper coin of Charles II of Lorraine (reigned 1545-1608) was found on the shelf, having almost certainly fallen out of a joint in the carcase.
