- This candlestick and its pair (F75) is based on a model of c. 1729 that is attributed to Juste-Aurèle Meissonnier (1695-1750), and the bases may also be compared with the base of a silver candlestick shown in three different engraved views in Meissonnier's 'Oeuvre'. They are, however, nineteenth-century castings. This is indicated by the use of single castings, where eighteenth-century castings are made up of three castings: one for the stem and two for the base. Moreover, the use of the personal motto of Louis XIV, 'NEC PLURIBUS IMPAR' in the cartouches, on a Louis XV model is a historical solecism that implies a nineteenth-century origin.
