  • This candlestick and its pair (F161) date from the mid-nineteenth century, although they are largely in the Louis XVI style in both design and execution. The use of dark bronze for the pedestals, rather than gilt bronze or marble, seems characteristically nineteenth century, as does the way the pedestals and plinths are attached. The shape of the candleholders seems to derive from the First Empire style, rather than from any Louis XVI prototype.
