  • One of a set of four chairs (F204-7). Armchair (fauteuil) with carved and gilt beechwood frame and fixed upholstery covered with modern striped, plum-coloured watered silk lampas, woven in relief with a flowered trellis-work design in buff silk.
Although described by Watson in the 1956 Wallace Collection catalogue as being in the manner of Georges Jacob, this set is almost certainly not by him. The armchair frames are less substantial than those by Jacob, and this set is tentatively attributed to J.-B.-B.Demay (1759-1849, master 1784) and dated c.1785.
