  • Marie Lecszinska (1703-68), daughter of Stanislas, King of Poland, married Louis XV of France in 1725 when he was fifteen. They had ten children. This miniature derives from a famous portrait by Nattier of 1748, which captured her homely, pious nature: she is depicted in a simple day dress, turning from her reading of the Bible. At the Wallace Collection there is a reduced eighteenth-century copy on canvas of Nattier’s portrait (P437).
