History
  • Rock crystal is a transparent colourless quartz which, although very hard, has from ancient times been carved into decorative and useful objects. This bowl was probably made in northern India in the seventeenth century, probably in the Mughal lands. The Mughals, the Muslim rulers of India, had a long and outstanding artistic tradition, particularly in architecture, textiles and metalwork as well as carving in precious materials such as jade and rock crystal.
