  • Don Gaspar de Guzmán (1587-1645), Conde de Olivares and Duque de San Lúcar La Mayor, was Chief Minister to Philip IV until his disgrace in 1643 (see also Studio of Velázquez P6). This picture is a reduced copy after Velázquez’s 1638 portrait of Olivares (Madrid, Prado). It is a pendant with P106. The two pictures have apparently always been pendants and were probably copied after the originals had been brought together by Charles III of Spain in 1769.
