  • Don Gaspar de Guzmán (1587-1645), Conde de Olivares and Duque de San Lúcar La Mayor, was Chief Minister to Philip IV until his disgrace in 1643 (see also Studio of Velázquez P6). This picture is a reduced copy after Velázquez’s 1638 portrait of Olivares (Madrid, Prado). The two pictures have apparently always been pendants and were probably copied after the originals had been brought together by Charles III of Spain in 1769. Pendant to P106.
