  • A brace of partridge is seen in the centre of the composition, with a brace of sanderling above, and a dead kingfisher in the foreground. There are several similar compositions by the artist, including pictures in museums in Toledo (Ohio), The Hague and Utrecht. This painting probably dates from the mid-1660s when his work reflected the influence of Jan Weenix. It was attributed to Jan Weenix when acquired by the 4th Marquess of Hertford, and to Jan Baptist Weenix when exhibited in 1872-5.
