  • Two cuirassiers (heavy cavalrymen) of the Second Empire take their leave of an irate mother and her tearful daughter on whom they have been billeted. The cotton cap brandished by the urchin alludes to the daughter’s loss of innocence. This is a reduced version of an oil painting (now untraced) exhibited by Bellangé at the Exposition Universelle of 1855.
