  • Probably painted in the early 1830s. The subject recalls coastal scenes painted by Bonington, Collins and other English artists in the previous decade. The sentimentality of the image, however, is more characteristic of the mid 19th century. As his pictures in the Wallace Collection demonstrate, Roqueplan painted a wide range of subjects.
