  • Kilchurn Castle is at the east end of Loch Awe, Strathclyde. Looming over the castle are the Grampian Mountains, with Ben Cruachan the foremost peak. Before he turned his attention increasingly to landscape gardening Nesfield had a considerable reputation as a painter of landscapes, being particularly admired for his depictions of turbulent water - Ruskin referred to him as 'Nesfield of the radiant cataract'.
