  • Probably exhibited at the Paris Salon of 1834. Although the distant belfry resembles that of the Cloth Hall at Bruges, the similarities are not close enough to identify Bruges as the intended setting. The uniforms indicate the soldiers belong to the French army which helped the Belgians repel the Dutch invasion of 1832.
