Born in Paris in 1732, he entered the Académie as the pupil of Jean-Baptiste-Marie Pierre, obtaining the second place in the Grand Prix of 1756. He became a candidate of the Academy in 1765 and a hull member as a history painter in 1773. His exhibits at the Salons between 1767 and 1791 included works for the Petit Trianon (1786), the Carthusian Monastery in Paris (1771), the chapel at Fontainebleau (1781), Marly and designs for the Gobelins (1783). His specialities were large-scale religious works as well as small-scale erotic paintings.
