Alexandre-Jean Oppenordt (1639 - 1715)
Works of Art

Oppenordt was born in the Netherlands but was established in Paris at the beginning of Louis XIV's reign and worked in the area of the Temple, where ébénistes were protected from the guild regulations and foreigners were able to work. In 1679 he was naturalized, and five years later was appointed a cabinet-maker to the king and given lodgings in the Louvre. He appears to have specialised in furniture of Boulle marquetry, much of which owes a debt to designs by Bérain.
