Bernard van Risen Burgh II (+1765)
Works of Art

Bernard II van Risen Burgh, who stamped his furniture 'B.V.R.B.' was born shortly after his parents' marriage in about 1696. He was apprenticed to his father and was received master before 1730. He appears to have moved to Lisbon between 1730-38 where he may have worked for the king who commissioned works from the best Parisian craftsmen, including Charles Cressent. On his return to Paris, van Risen Burgh II worked for the important 'marchands-merciers' (dealers) such as Hébert, Lazare Duvaux and Poirier, and specialised in 'meubles de luxe'. He does not appear to have had his own direct clientele, and as a result his name was less renowned than the quality of his work would suggest.
