  • Pommel of a Rapier, of flattened cylindrical form, chiselled in high relief with a band of figures of warriors, mounted and on foot; above and below are engraved bands of conventional flowers; traces of gilding remain; the button is missing. Barrel-shaped, tapering slightly towards the top, and flattened in the plane of the blade. Stamped on one face with what appears to be a rather crude figure of a horseman, possibly a maker's mark.

    About 1590-1620; nationality uncertain.

    Compare the pommels of A619 and 798 here, and that on a sword in the Electoral Armoury at Dresden (1899, cat., no. E222, now H.M.D. VI/236; Schöbel, 1975, pl. 82a).
