Further Reading
  • This cabinet has traditionally been the support for a filing cabinet ('serre-papiers') in the Wallace Collection (F82) by Jean-Pierre Latz (c. 1691-1754), but they do not bear much resemblance to each other and do not appear to have been originally intended to be paired together. No ébéniste's stamp has been found on this cabinet, but certain motifs suggest that it is by Latz, although not intended originally to go with the serre-papiers which currently stands on it.
It is veneered with satiné and purpleheart; on the front, quartered purpleheart is banded with satiné and the same effect is reproduced on the side doors of the cabinet, which provide access to interior shelving.
