  • This portrait miniature is a good copy of an unfinished portrait of Charles II by Samuel Cooper of an unknown date, at Chiddingstone Castle. King Charles is depicted wearing the Lion Armour, white collar and ribbon of the Order of the Garter. It is notable for its informality (the sitter is shown turning his shoulders and head to the right and appears relaxed) in contrast to the frontally-posed official portraits of the king.
