  • The identity of the sitter is not known, although it appears that he was identified as Admiral Blake (1599-1657) in the nineteenth century. He wears a grey doublet with a white cravat tied with a red bow, of the type fashionable in c. 1665-1675. The portrait miniature has been attributed to Pieter Cornelisz van Slingelandt (1640-1691), a pupil of Gerrit Dou who painted a small number of miniatures in oil.
