Works of Art

At an early age he entered the studio of Gros, where he became friendly with a fellow pupil, Nicolas-Toussaint Charlet (1792-1845), who greatly influenced him. Like Charlet, Bellangé; produced many prints of military scenes (including fifteen albums of lithographs published by Gihaut frères 1823-35). He first made his name at the Paris Salon as a battle painter, but later specialised in anecdotal paintings of Napoleonic subjects. He enjoyed considerable popular and official success. He was Keeper of the Rouen Museum 1835-52.
