  • This painting is apparently unfinished. The setting was said to be Constantinople when the painting was sold in 1852, but it is too vague to confirm this identification. The figures have been identified in Wallace Collection catalogues as Arabs, but their costume is closer to that of the Turks. As identification remains problematic, a neutral title has been given here. Dated c.1832-3 by Mosby.
