  • The Ascension is copied after a picture by Leandro Bassano (Brussels, Musées Royaux des Beaux-Arts). It is one of several small copies made by Teniers after the Italian pictures in the collection of Archduke Leopold Wilhelm, Governor of the Spanish Netherlands, 1646-56. The collection was kept in the Château of Coudenberg, Brussels, which Teniers evoked in a number of fanciful views of the Archduke’s picture gallery. The painting was acquired by Sir Richard Wallace in 1886.
