- Waterloo, the final battle of the Napoleonic wars, was fought on 18 June 1815. Napoleon was defeated by a coalition army of British, German, Dutch and Belgian troops, under the command of the Duke of Wellington, reinforced by Prussian forces under Marshal von Blücher. In Bellangé’s watercolour British cavalry on the left attack the French Guard. Napoleon, mounted on his horse, can be seen on the far right.
