- Pair to S217. The first versions of these compositions were created by Houdon between c.1774 and 1780, and were made in marble and on a larger scale. The success and popularity of these sensual sculptures led to the production of smaller versions in bronze, almost certainly made in the workshop of Houdon’s former pupil Thomire, who was a specialist bronzier.
