Born in Amsterdam in 1642, son and pupil of Jan Baptist Weenix, who moved with his family to Utrecht in 1649. He worked in Utrecht and was recorded as a member of the painters' college in 1664 and 1668. His early work was in his father's manner (see A Southern Harbour Scene).

By 1679 be was in Amsterdam where he married that year. His later decorative and spacious still lifes attracted extensive noble patronage. Between 1702 and 1714 he worked at Dusseldorf and Bernsberg for the Elector Palatine, Johann Wilhelm (twelve large canvases are now in Munich), and at Pommersfelden and Gaibach for count Schönborn. He died in Amsterdam on 19 September 1719.
