Born in Paris, a pupil of Vincent before joining Isabey’s studio. He became one of the closest imitators of Isabey’s earlier style, exhibiting at the Salon from 1789 to 1838. He was extremely active as a teacher and amongst his pupils were Le Gros, Meuret and Saint, all of whom are represented in the Wallace Collection. For a copy of his self0portrait, see M252.
