A pupil in Lyon of Fleury Richard (1777-1852), he was a frequent exhibitor at the Paris Salon from 1824 until the year before his death, specialising in anecdotal historical scenes. He also received commissions for several Parisian churches, notably Saint-Philippe-du-Roule.
