  • This mercuric barometer is in the form of an obelisk and is intended as a pair with the clock (F94); the case is veneered with lapis lazuli and supported on a griotte marble base. The gilt-bronze mounts include a figure of Iris at the top of the obelisk, dolphins’ heads at its base, and a seated Cupid and Neptune on either side of the dial.

Like the clock, the barometer has been altered in the 19th century. The oval paper medallion depicting Mercury and Athena crowning Cupid mounted above the dial was inserted in 1854.
