  • The brother of Adriaen van Ostade, Isack van Ostade specialised in landscapes and outdoor genre scenes. This painting shows the Prinzipalmarkt in Münster, Germany, looking towards the Church of Saint Lamberti at the time of the Peace Congress of Westphalia (1645-8). Ostade is not known to have travelled to Münster himself, and possibly was indebted for his composition to studies by Ter Borch, who had been there accompanying the Dutch delegation to the peace negotiations.
