  • Van Mierevelt was one of the leading portraitists in early seventeeth-century Delft and received commissions from numerous noble families in the Dutch Republic. This portrait shows the precise, linear style for which the artist became well-known. The sitter’s dark dress, lavishly embroidered bodice and ruff are typical of early seventeeth-century Netherlandish dress.
