- This picture, like many of Hackaert’s forest scenes, shows an avenue of trees with a patch of sunlight filtering through the leafy canopy above. The atmospheric light, tall slender birch trees and open view to water give an impressive sense of space. Hackaert painted several versions of this theme. The figures may have been painted by another artist.
