  • This moonlight scene of a river bears is typical of Van der Neer’s compositions. The winding movement of the river draws the eye towards the horizon, past the cattle in the middle ground. However, the smooth brushwork does not seem to resonate with van der Neer’s usual style, and so it may be a later copy.
