  • Bought as a work of Cuyp by the 4th Marquess of Hertford, Two Horsemen at a Tavern was recognised as a work of Abraham van Calraet by the art historian Hofstede de Groot in 1926. A signed Calraet in the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, Landscape with Figures and Horses, has a similar landscape background, and the dog recurs in another picture by the artist in the same collection. At least five different versions of the present picture are known.
