  • Aert van der Neer established himself as a landscape painter in Amsterdam in 1632. He specialised in monochrome landscapes, particularly moonlight and winter scenes. Probably painted in the 1640s, the picture displays the artist’s characteristic use of blues, greys and ochres and is comparable to Sunset on the Ijssel in the Petit Palais, Paris.
